about Helen

After beginning her dance training in ballroom and Latin at 13, Helen competed around the UK for 7 years during which time she was trained by Ian Waite (Strictly Come Dancing) and many other teachers. After splitting from her dance partner in 2001 she decided to take a break from the world of ballroom dancing and in the meantime learn a different form of dance. What was planned as a temporary interlude became the beginning of what is now emerging as a career in bellydance.

Since beginning her education of Egyptian music and dance with Hossam and Serena Ramzy several years ago, Helen has been honoured to perform with them in concerts in London and throughout the UK, featuring in solo and troupe pieces. Helen continues her studies at The Drumzy School of Dance, Rhythm & Music for Advanced and Professional Dancers where she is among the first intake of students to study on the Drumzy Advanced course.

Helen began teaching bellydance at the University of Reading in 2005 where she still holds classes for all levels. Due to growing popularity she has expanded into Tilehurst and Newbury. She is enthusiastic about her teaching and is always delighted to encourage anybody who wishes to learn this beautiful art form, no matter what their experience. Helen’s teaching style is noted for its supportive and encouraging approach and she is known for her rigorous commitment to musical interpretation and teaching bellydance as a disciplined art form.

Helen is a resident dancer at La Fontana restaurant in Reading (renowned for its dedication to hosting live world music) and has performed numerous times at London's Planet Egypt, Saqarah and other professional showcases including theatre productions, concerts, festivals, parties, corporate and other events. She is affiliated to Bellydance Venture with Nadine, Kathryn and Rachel.
